My Haiku. Tell me yours.
In life, there are moments that touch our hearts and remind us of the profound impact relationships can have. Recently, I came across a touching story about a woman who experienced the loss of a significant father figure in her life. What struck me the most was how they found an initial connection through the art of a haiku.
What is a Haiku?
A haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry, known for its simplicity and elegance. It consists of three lines with a 5–7–5 syllable pattern. Despite its brevity, a haiku captures the essence of a moment, often drawing inspiration from nature and the fleeting beauty of life.
Remembering my youth
I couldn’t help but be inspired to try my hand at this ancient form of expression. It was initially a quick exercise but something that you can get lost in perfecting. It had been years since I last crafted a haiku, a poetic exercise from my school days. Intrigued by the idea of using such a concise and structured format to convey emotions, I set out to compose my own.
Now, with a desire to rekindle that poetic spark, I am on a journey to recapture the essence of crafting little haikus in moments of stress. It’s a personal rediscovery, an intentional effort to reconnect with the part of me that once found solace and beauty in the concise elegance in expressing myself. I am eager to see how these tiny poems can once again bring me calm.
