Is Hollywood a Joke: Barbie’s Oscar Snubbed for Ken

Wow! Let’s talk about The Power of Patriarchy. Ken Nominated for an Oscar, Barbie and the Female Director Left in the Shadows. Hollywood are no longer trying to hide the fact that they have no respect for women.

What happened?

In a recent twist of events in the world of cinema, Ken, the iconic male counterpart to Barbie, received an Oscar nomination, sparking conversations about gender bias and representation in the film industry. While Ken’s recognition is undoubtedly a commendable achievement (I laughed harder than I should for the ‘Just Ken’ song), the stark absence of Barbie and female directors from the prestigious nomination list raises crucial questions about the persistent power dynamics within Hollywood.

In a stark illustration of patriarchal norms within the film industry, Ryan Gosling, embodying the suave Ken, secures a well-deserved Oscar nomination, emphasising the deep-rooted gender biases that persist. Celebrating Gosling’s accomplishment highlights the glaring absence of Margot Robbie’s Barbie and director Greta Gerwig from the nominee list serves as a poignant reminder of the systemic sexism that permeates Hollywood.
